Three Distinct Decon® Studrail® Configurations

Decon® Studrail® SW

The Decon® Studrail® SW is the original Studrail® design. In order to develop the full yield strength of the studs, it features large, specially engineered anchor heads studwelded to a steel base rail. The oversized heads, 10 times the cross-sectional area of the stud stems, provide superior anchorage and eliminate slippage, while the base rail provides bottom anchorage and ensures proper spacing of the studs.

Decon® Studrail® CS

The newly patented Decon® Studrail® CS features a unique double-headed stud design with the same large anchor head design area as the original Studrail® SW. Both heads provide secure anchorage in the slab. One end is mechanically crimped into a channel that provides proper stud spacing and bottom anchorage.

Decon® Foundation Studrail®

Foundation Studrails® feature longer stems and the same 10:1 head-to-stem area of Studrail® SW and Studrail® CS. They can be suspended upside down (from the flexural reinforcement in the foundation) or mounted in the traditional manner to enhance the punching shear capacity in foundations.

More efficient than rebar... and simpler too.

Flat plate construction is a mainstay of structural design in North America and around the world. This system is often used for condominiums, hotels, office buildings, hospitals and other structures. Designs are usually governed by punching shear capacity at the slab column connections. If punching shear is not accounted for in the design, high shear load can cause a catastrophic brittle failure, as shown.

Prior to the introduction of Decon® Studrails®, stirrups were often used to enhance the punching shear capacity. However, testing has shown measurable anchorage slip at bends, reducing their effectiveness in thin-slab construction. As a result of anchorage slippage, the full capacity of the stirrups cannot be utilized in thin slabs. Each rebar stirrup cage takes several man-hours to fabricate and install, a significant factor in project scheduling and costs.

Stirrup installations congest the slab-column connection, adding significant complications to the placement of longitudinal reinforcement and P/T tendons, hampering utility installations and driving up overall construction costs.
